Tips for A1 Writing

Fill all fields

Leave no field empty. If you don't know something, write a dash (-).

Greeting and Closing

Start with a greeting (Dear..., Hello...) and end with a closing.

Simple Sentences

Write short, simple sentences. Complex structures are not needed at A1.

Part 2 should have about 30 words. Not much more, not much less.

What is the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 Writing test?

The writing test consists of two parts: Part 1 is filling out a form, Part 2 is a short message (approx. 30 words). The exam time is 20 minutes.

How is writing scored?

Scoring is based on four criteria: Task fulfillment, Coherence, Vocabulary, and Structures. Each part is scored with points, you need 60% total to pass.
