Saxony-Anhalt was created in 1990 from former East German districts and contains the heartland of the German Reformation: Wittenberg, where Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the Schlosskirche door in 1517. The state has four UNESCO World Heritage sites — more than any other Bundesland — including the Bauhaus sites in Dessau, the Luther memorials in Wittenberg and Eisleben, the Quedlinburg old town, and the Naumburg Cathedral. The Einbürgerungstest emphasizes this dense cultural heritage.
Saxony-Anhalt offers the test at VHS Magdeburg, Halle (Saale), Wittenberg, and Dessau-Roßlau. Halle has the most frequent test dates because of Martin-Luther-Universität's international student community.
Wittenberg is where Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the Schlosskirche door on 31 October 1517, traditionally regarded as the start of the Protestant Reformation. The Lutherstadt Wittenberg memorials are UNESCO World Heritage and a focus of the state's question pool.
The Bauhaus art and design school operated in Dessau from 1925 to 1932, after relocating from Weimar. The original Bauhaus building, Masters' Houses, and student housing in Dessau are UNESCO World Heritage sites and remain influential references in modern architecture worldwide.
